CCA Overview & Policies
The school's CCA policies and operations to build a strong, transparent partnership between parents and the school.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) form an integral part of your child’s holistic education at ACS (Primary). Beyond classrooms and textbooks, CCAs provide authentic platforms for our gentlemen to discover their God-given talents, build resilience, and embody our core school values. While CCAs are non-compulsory in primary school, we strongly encourage Primary 3 to Primary 6 students to participate in a CCA for their holistic development.
This guide outlines our CCA philosophy, expectations, and operational processes to foster a clear, transparent, and encouraging partnership between school and home in supporting your child’s developmental journey.
1. Purpose of CCA: "Discovery Before Mastery"
At ACS (Primary), our CCA philosophy is anchored on Discovery before Mastery. Primary school is a foundational period where every child should have rich opportunities to explore diverse domains—whether in Sports & Games, Visual & Performing Arts, Clubs & Societies, or Uniformed Groups.
A Platform for Discovery: Primary school provides a safe space for boys to discover their interests, strengths, and personal character without the immediate pressure of high-stakes performance.
Character Development First: Character development is the primary purpose of CCA. Building integrity, perseverance, humility, and sportsmanship takes precedence over winning trophies.
Progressive Skill Growth: Skill development and technical mastery are natural, secondary outcomes that emerge naturally through sustained commitment, discipline, and consistent effort over time.
Holistic Measure of Success: While we encourage our boys to strive for excellence, competition results, medals, and titles are not the sole measure of a successful CCA experience. Growth, personal effort, teamwork, and character define true achievement.

2. ACS (Primary) Desired Outcomes
Every CCA at ACS (Primary) intentionally designs learning experiences to nurture four core Desired Outcomes. These qualities are developed through daily authentic experiences—training sessions, peer interactions, overcoming setbacks, and personal reflection—rather than solely through high-stakes competitions:

3. Student Participation & Commitment Expectations
Active participation and commitment are vital for personal character growth and team cohesion. We seek parental partnership in reinforcing the following expectations for all students:
Regular & Punctual Attendance: Students are expected to attend every scheduled training session on time.
Commitment & Responsibility: Students should honor their commitments to the team by giving full focus, energy, and dedication during every practice session.
Sportsmanship & Respect: Students must display exemplary behavior, sportsmanship, and respect towards instructors, coaches, teachers-in-charge, and peers.
Proactive Communication: In the event of an unavoidable absence (e.g., illness or emergency), parents are requested to inform the CCA Teachers-in-Charge promptly.
4. School Team Selection Framework
Selection for school teams representing ACS (Primary) in external events (such as National School Games, SYF, national competitions, or public performances) is conducted through a holistic assessment over time, rather than single-day tryouts alone.
Key Selection Considerations (Holistic Assessment over Time):
Commitment & Consistency across training sessions
Attendance Record and punctuality
Attitude, receptiveness to coaching, and discipline
Technical & Tactical Ability relative to competition readiness
Improvement Over Time and personal growth trajectory
Team Needs & Tactical Dynamics (building a balanced squad)
Selection Authority & Decision-Making:
Professional Recommendations: Coaches & Technical Instructors provide professional evaluations based on skill readiness and tactical fit.
School Decisions: Teachers-in-Charge make final selection decisions on behalf of the school, taking into account holistic character, academic progress, and student well-being.
Finality: The school's decision on school team selection is final.
Important Note on Participation:
Participation in a CCA does not guarantee school representation or participation in every competition, match, or performance. Every student will be provided equal opportunities to learn, practice, and develop during regular CCA training sessions.
5. School Representation & Conduct Standards
Representing Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) in competitions, festivals, and public platforms is an earned privilege, not an automatic right. Student representatives serve as ambassadors of our school’s rich heritage, values, and tradition.
Uncompromising integrity, sportsmanship, and respectful conduct on and off the field or stage.
High standards of discipline, commitment, and alignment with overall school expectations.
Exemplary respect for opponents, officials, referees, instructors, and event organizers.
Conduct & Representation Policy:
Students who commit serious disciplinary offences or whose conduct is inconsistent with school expectations may be withdrawn from school representation for upcoming fixtures or the season.
6. Celebrating Growth & Recognition
At ACS (Primary), we believe in celebrating sustained effort, character excellence, and meaningful contributions. Students who consistently demonstrate commendable attitude, strong commitment, and exemplary character in their CCA journey may be recognized through:
School Awards & Commendations: End-of-year character and CCA achievement awards, subject to prevailing school criteria.
Official Report Book Entries: Holistic records of CCA participation, leadership roles, and achievements reflected in official student progress reports.
