Discover how ACS (Primary) nurtures Malay Language skills through a rich curriculum, engaging programmes, and cultural activities.
Vision
At ACS (Primary), we aim at providing a holistic education that develops our students in four key areas namely Affective, Cognitive, Social and Physical. The Mother Tongue Languages Department (Malay Language) seeks to provide a linguistically enriching, culturally vibrant and morally positive learning environment. We believe that such an environment enables our students to develop holistically in these four areas.
Curriculum
The Malay Language curriculum aims to develop students’ language proficiency, civic literacy and cultural awareness while strengthening their communication skills.
The Malay Language (ML) syllabus is based on the CITA package and aims to equip students with knowledge, skills and values to communicate effectively in Malay in everyday life and future workplace settings. It also seeks to develop students' identity through a deeper understanding and appreciation of Malay culture, traditions, literature, and history, while fostering a strong sense of cultural identity. In addition, the syllabus encourages students to connect with the wider Malay-speaking community by communicating with people in the Malay Archipelago (Nusantara) and engaging with global communities that share similar language and cultural heritage.
Assessment Matters
We focus on six main core skills, namely listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills, writing skills, interactive conversational skills, and interactive writing skills.
Listening Skills
Students develop the ability to listen attentively to and understand a variety of texts, including short stories, novels and poetry. They are taught to respond accurately to questions based on the texts.
Speaking Skills
Students are taught to communicate confidently, fluently, and effectively in Standard Malay Language through clear and meaningful oral communication.
Reading Skills
Students learn to read a wide range of texts with understanding and respond appropriately. They are also taught to read aloud using accurate pronunciation, appropriate intonation, and expression according to the context.
Writing Skills
Students develop the ability to write narrative, descriptive and functional texts based on given prompts and writing tasks.
Interactive Skills
Interactive Conversational Skills enable students to participate actively in discussions, engage in meaningful conversations and respond appropriately on topics related to themselves, their families, their school, the community, and the environment.
Interactive Writing Skills develop students' ability to write effectively for different purposes, audiences, and contexts.
Learning Support
To further strengthen students' mastery of the language, we develop learning packages for students from Primary 3 to Primary 6. These include composition packages and oral packages
These resources provide students with extensive practice and help them build confidence in the various language components. Students are also given regular practice papers to familiarise themselves with examination formats while developing effective time-management skills to complete assessments within the allocated time.

Values in Action (VIA)
Primary 1 - Primary 6
Values in Action (VIA) at Anglo Chinese School (Primary) aims to provide students with the exposure that allows them to be Community Collaborators, Effective Communicators and apply our school’s iHOPEFUL values. The Community Collaborator and Effective Communicator are two of the traits we aspire for every young gentleman in ACS(P). As part of our effort to inculcate a caring and positive attitude towards the elderly, we organise a visit to the Pertapis Senior Citizens Fellowship Home.
Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight
Primary 1 - Primary 6
Mother Tongue Fortnight activities allow authentic exposure to Malay Language. Students are exposed to a wide range of activities during the MTL Fortnight. In addition to learning and using the language, activities such as Dikir Barat, Kompang, Angklung, Silat, Zapin and Gamelan provide authentic hands-on experiences for students. Such exposure provides an element of fun injected in the learning of the Malay Language.
Learning Support/ Stretch Programmes
Remedial Programme
Primary 5 - Primary 6
Selected P5 and P6 students will attend the remedial programme. Teachers will also focus on the various examination components like language and oral skills.
